mediator?

last night my mom and i were talking.

she asked me to give her one reason other than the un and 607 why i can't go back to the kh.

i told her, jesus is my mediator.

I just had to reply to your post as this is the most important false teaching the WT has (in my book).

When I first started on my 'search' I just couldn't believe what I read in the society's mags about Jesus not being my mediator.

After much reading (mainly Paul's letters in NT) I knew something was very wrong. From this teaching it is so easy to see how the teaching of the separation of the 144000 and the other sheep is also a false teaching. Jesus is the mediator for all christians (one sheepfold..christian Jews/christian gentiles ) "Jesus Christ, who died -more than that, who is raised to life- is at the right hand of God and is interceding for us." - Rom 8:34

I was so upset when I realised how I had believed such wrong teaching I was physically ill. The quotes other posters have used are excellent so I don't have to add more.

It still makes me feel very angry.

Suffice to say this is a most important turning point...it leads to a complete turn-around in understanding doctrine.

"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ" Eph.4:15

Perhaps you might like to do what I did...just read Romans..get another Bible translation then read Paul's letters and I think you will find everything starts to make sense, it's like a jigsaw puzzle. Pray for a right understanding. I didn't talk to anybody, just read. It took 6 months to start coming up out of the gloom.

Well, Ozzie told me this would be easy - but it's sooooooo slow!!! I could have read a book in the time I'm waiting here - oh well, I'll learn, be patient with me, I'm working on the gifts of the spirit - like long-suffering!!

All About The Trinity

when jesus was about to die, he showed who his superior was by praying: "father, if you wish, remove this cup from me.

the one god is eternal (has always existed and always will), immortal (his divine nature cannot die), omnipotent (all-powerful), omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (he is everywhere at the same time), god is the only one who can read human hearts and minds, god cannot sin and cannot lie, god does not change his morals or his nature.

the trinity is not one person revealed three different ways (this is what "oneness pentecostals" believe).

Thank you for such a well thought out and researched post. I am going to print this out to keep to help anyone who is "searching". It must have taken you a great deal of time but very well worth your effort. It's great to have all those wonderful scriptures printed out. This makes it so much easier for anyone questioning. Then hopefully they can check the scriptures themselves at a later "quiet time"

I encourage anyone to think carefully (and prayerfully) about this post. Everything we were taught as "truth" is 'upside down'. Now is the time to be free enough to think for ourselves, letting the Holy Spirit help us to "see" with unveiled eyes what is really the "truth". Then we are in a position to act on our new found faith.

Many of us have taught others for years the "truth about the Trinity". We were so sure we had all the answers. We never, ever looked at a different point of view. Now here we are YEARS later having to completely re-think. It is terribly difficult, but SO WORTHWHILE. Things start fitting into place and the jigsaw puzzle starts to come together, It is possible to do but it does take time and effort. From my point of view, just reading the "new testament/christian Greek scriptures" as a letter to you from God (with NO interpretation), is the best way to start. Then all these wonderful scriptures quoted in this post will come alive. Then it's easier to see the whole picture and the Trinity is just a part of it (but a very important part)

Does it ever get easier?

it was only recently that i was introduced to this site.

i had long had doubts but could never bring myself to peer over the wall built in my head about the evils of apostates.

Just read your brave post. So many of us have been (and are still going through) what you are now feeling. Short answer is that it really does get easier..and you have a wonderful time getting there....it's called FREEDOM! !!!!!!! Freedom from oppressive teachings (which scripturally are completely wrong)...Freedom from oppresive elders .....Freedom to think for yourself.....Freedom to read what you like....Freedom to choose your own friends...Freedom to explore real Christianity.....Freedom to read the Bible as a letter to you from your own loving heavenly father....Freedom to think what it is saying without someone's interpretation.....Freedom to time with your wife.... Freedom to really pray to Jehovah to help you sort out what to believe....Freedom ....Freedom to THINK!!!

Go for it...don't stop now you've got this far!!

My Sister's Wedding - Good and Bad News

ok.. firstly let me see i can explain this with out too much rambling..... for those who know me, know that i was disfellowshiped in june this year.

before this time, my mother, stepfather and sister shunned me.

since my disfellowshipping, i have not had contact with my parents and an occasional text message from my sister.. i found out last week that my sister was getting married on the saturday just gone (11th october) so i decided to give her a call on friday to wish her luck for her wedding.

I don't very often post, Kelpie, but I just had to for this. I feel so very, very sorry for you and ALL your family. You are all trapped (as we are too) in this false, hard, unkind, unchristian religion we at one time all thought was "right". We are trapped .....because even when we are "out" .....we are still involved because of our own dear family members who are still "in". There is no answer to your situation because your family are victims just as you and I are. I so understand how you are feeling now but later I think you will realize that if you go back for your family's sake you will compound the problem because one day your own children will "see the light" and it will happen all over again. This is the terrible hold the organisation has...and they know it..and they use it. If we don't get out now and take the terrible pain, the next generation will grow up to face the same dreadful problems so many posting here have. Could you really face a future like that for your own children.????

They need the freedom to make their own choices in life. We need to remember that we can take all our pain to our mediator Christ Jesus, who "groans" for us, He is compassionate and really doesn't let you bear the unbearable. Take it to him in prayer and he WILL make a way out. It may seem so dark at the moment but you will be able to look back and see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I wish I could give you a hug (and also your poor mum needs one too) but this may well start her on the road .........

HI 215, So true! The Bible study we now attend uses only the Bible and after 12 years they are only up to Luke! A short passage is read and then everyone freely comments and asks questions which can lead to all kinds of interesting side studies. It is orderly, stimulating and everyone feels free to say whatever they want. The leader always has research/scriptural references and we also have a lot of laughs. When we are all ready to move on, we do. We always laugh when we go away on holiday to see how little we have progressed in the chapter. We love it and have learned more in the last 4 years than we have ever learned before. The freedom to be able to just ask a question (without interrupting the book study!!!) is a real treat.

I enjoy reading your posts.

Just who 'gave' the name?

the year 1925 was notable as the year when the wts for the first time proclaimed the importance of the name jehovah, although the watchtower followers were not called jehovah's witnesses until six years later in 1931.. this is claimed by the wts (see proclaimers book, page 152) to be a name given by "divine providence".. this is the teaching given in the knowledge book on page 94, paragraph 12.. a question: since there's much conjecture about the 'proper' name and pronunciation of god's name, some believing that yahweh is the most appropriate, why did an all-knowing god not impart to his f&ds the correct pronunciation.

if he wanted his followers to be named after himself, then why did he tell them to be called by an erroneous name?.

interestingly, the proclaimers book itself gives an alternative explanation of the origin of the name jehovah's witnesses:.

Nourishment for the Spirit

my observation is that persons who 1) heal/adjust the most rapidly from their jw experience and 2) seem to have the most joy in life are those who read, read, read, in pursuit of what i call nourishment for the spirit.

i've really enjoy the pithy aphorisms you use here, which suggests you've distilled some wisdom from somewhere.

i'm going to ask your help in this thread.

I'm here at last! I'm the wife of ozziepost. That ozzie of mine spends too much time at your place. He always tells me what's happening and shows me interesting threads. Sometimes I give him some ideas!

Maximus, this is a very good topic to talk about but I was surprised that Ozzie didn't tell you about the book that meant a lot to me on our road to freedom.

It is a wonderful book called What's So Amazing about Grace by Phillip Yancey (Harper Collins Zondervan)

It is written in an easy to read style and is full of great stories teaching the meaning of grace (or as we know it, "undeserved kindness"). It is such a healing to read it as it shows how hurting people (or people who have been made to feel they are wicked) are more likely to see Jesus as a refuge. The down and outs who flocked to Jesus when he was on earth felt Jesus's compassion. The prostitute was forgiven even though her sins were many "because she loved much, but he who is forgiven little, loves little." It looks at grace, we speak about it, but do we really understand it, do we really believe in it.. and do we show it in our own lives?

It has great quotes, such as,
He who cannot forgive another, breaks the bridge over which he must pass himself.- George Herbert

Man is born broken. He lives by mending. The grace of God is glue. Eugene O'Neill.

This book was the beginning of my mending, it helped me to see things in a completely different way from the Borg. To see that there is a loving way to cope with our trials. God's grace is so needed by us all. We are all going to make mistakes as we are all imperfect, but the way we handle these situations can destroy us or those we love.

There's a great chapter entitled "Grace Avoidance" that discusses legalism. He writes: "Jesus proclaimed unmistakably that God's law is so perfect and absolute that no one can achieve righteousness. Yet God's grace is so great that we do not have to. By striving to prove how much they deserve God's love, legalists miss the whole point of the gospel, that it is a gift from God to people who don't deserve it. The solution to sin is not to impose an ever-stricter code of behavior. It is to know God."

I really recommend this book to everyone. I am sure many sisters would really find it encouraging and helpful. Much of what is wrong about the Borg is the lack of grace. The failure to understand, receive and live out God's unconditional grace and forgiveness. Also the failure to give out unconditional grace, forgiveness and unconditional love to brothers and sisters who have made mistakes. The books and magazines say they do, but in practice they don't. The good news of the gospel of grace has not penetrated the elders' emotions.

I think that's enough from me now and I hope you will get as much out of this book as I did when I read it two years or so ago.
